Cedar House Style ~ New Build Design Inspiration
We had some fun over spring break making a few design decisions for our next house. Our consultation was just a few weeks after signing our contract, so I didn't have a ton of time to over-plan, which was probably for the best. I did find a few pictures on Instagram/Pinterest (that were also achievable) to reference while we were at the model home design center. It was a neat experience, but I also felt pressure to select everything perfectly - which you don't really feel when you buy a house that is already finished. Next time I'm happy to leave it to the pros!
Some pics of the vibe we're going for with our next place....
I'm trying to stay in a West Texas high-end hotel + a casual art gallery feel (Marfa meets suburbs), Matt has renamed it Big Bend Lux, LOL.
Inside: Mostly white for our art gallery vibe...
General: Paint/trim/door color/cabinets are all white and white and the door handles and light fixtures, door hardware, and plumbing fixtures will be oil-rubbed bronze
Kitchen: We selected the cabinet door style and added on painted cabinets in white with black granite countertops, and white tile backsplash
Flooring: We're going with a wood-look luxury vinyl plank for the main floors, marble-look tile for the main bathroom, and dark gray tile for the other bathrooms and mudroom, the other bathroom and shower wall tile is also white/light toned
Outside:
Bricks, stone, and shingle colors were already selected, we picked the trim color, door styles, and door stain. Apparently brick is the hardest thing for people to choose, so we had it easy and ended up with cute brick too.
Add-ons:
We did decide to pay extra to have all the kitchen cabinets and island changed to a high-quality wood and be painted (instead of drywall on the island), and then paid a little extra to have the tile laid certain ways. Outside we added on full gutters and an additional outdoor outlet on the back patio. We are going to switch out all the basic light fixtures for fans and more ornate fixtures fairly soon after we move in, but other than that there shouldn't be too many things to do inside the house. The yard will be the main project area for this house.
All the samples together:
The coloring looks a little warmer in this picture, everything is more cool-toned in person. Hopefully, we still like it in 20 years!
